» » Match Preview; Sevilla vs Manchester United

Manchester United are certain favorites to trump Sevilla for a place in the quarter finals of the Champions League this season. To achieve that, the Reds just need to take a slender advantage from the first leg clash at the Sanchez Pizjuan.

From the outside, Sevilla seem to have a good record in Europe, but that is entirely down to their title winning streak in the Europa League. In Champions League, the team often failed to live up to the expectations and had never progressed beyond this stage, losing in all previous three round of 16 ties.

Nevertheless, Sevilla can look at their group stage performance to gain some confidence. They finished second in the group with 2 wins, 3 draws and 1 loss. But, most importantly the pair of draws against free scoring Liverpool is a substantial achievement.

On the other hand, Manchester United had an easy ride during the group stage. They finished top of the log by winning in 5 out of 6, while suffering a narrow defeat away at Basel.

Yet, the team currently managed by Mourinho boast of a mammoth home record in Europe, which will be enough to see the Devils getting better of double legged ties. However, they need to do a neat job in the away leg on Tuesday, as their current away form is all competitions is slightly below potential.

Sevilla vs Manchester United: Head-to-head

Manchester United and Sevilla are meeting for the first time in a UEFA club competition.

Sevilla’s overall record against Premier League clubs is 5 W- 4D-4L from 13 matches. At home soil, it is a decent 3W-1D-1L from 5.

United have plenty of experience against Spanish clubs and they have an overall record of 13W-20D-17L from 50 matches. They could do better in the Spanish soil, 3W-10D-10L from 20 away matches.
