According to the reports, Chelsea have to beat Manchester United in race for Bayern Munich midfielder Arturo Vidal, as the Red Devils boss Jose Mourinho has identified the Chile international as his next major transfer target at Old Trafford.
January was a relatively subdued month for Man United, as they signed Arsenal superstar Alexis Sanchez as their only piece of business of the winter window. But, with the Red Devils failing to keep up with rampant league leaders Manchester City, Jose Mourinho is understood to be ready to oversee a spending spree this summer.
As per the Manchester Evening News, the Special One will instruct United to target 30-year-old Vidal in the summer as he seeks to bolster his options in midfield.
Mourinho splashed out a then world-record sum of £89m on Paul Pogba back in 2016 and also spent £40m to sign Chelsea holding midfielder Nemanja Matic last summer.
Antonio Conte, the Chelsea boss, has also openly praised Arturo Vidal and said he has ‘great respect’ for the player he worked with at Juventus.
‘I must be honest, it’s not right to talk about a player of another team. Especially if you try to link this player with us,’ the former Italy boss said.
‘But Arturo is a fantastic player, I have a great respect for Arturo, and we spent many years in Juventus together. If we go to war, I’d always want him with me.’
